Julio Jones joins Philadelphia Eagles’ active roster

The Philadelphia Eagles have signed wide receiver Julio Jones to their active roster, the NFL team announced on Wednesday.

Jones joined the Eagles on Oct. 17 as a member of the practice squad and had played in both Philadelphia games since as a practice-squad elevation.

Each NFL team can elevate two players from its practice squad to active status for each game. But each player has a limit of three elevations during the season.

Jones had one elevation remaining, but now as a member of the 53-player active roster, his eligibility is assured weekly.

In his first game for the Eagles, four days after his first practice with Philadelphia, Jones played 16 snaps and had a 3-yard reception in a 31-17 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Oct. 22.

In his second game, Jones played 15 snaps and caught an 8-yard touchdown pass to break a tie with 7:17 remaining in a 38-31 victory over the Washington Commanders on Sunday.

The sixth selection in the 2011 NFL Draft after starring at Foley High School and Alabama, Jones has been a seven-time Pro Bowl selection and a two-time first-team All-Pro. But in each of the previous three seasons, he missed seven games because of hamstring issues.

With 905 receptions for 13,640 receiving yards and 64 touchdowns, Jones ranks 23rd in receptions and 16th in receiving yards in NFL history.

During Jones’ two games with the Eagles, AJ Brown had 18 receptions for 267 yards and three touchdowns and DeVonta Smith 11 receptions for 144 yards and one touchdown as Philadelphia’s primary wide receivers. Wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus played 71 offensive snaps for the Eagles in the two games and a 5-yard reception.

The Eagles play the Dallas Cowboys at 3:25 p.m. CST Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
